Was wondering you said the front end still makes noises when you drive? Did you just remove the axel shafts or did you also remove the carrier and gears cause if not then you will still have noises cause it's still the part/full time awd isn't it

I pulled both axles and the driveshaft. Carrier still there, no point in removing. Only noise now is the pinion plunking around a little, but that doesn't bother me. Problem now is the engine is misfiring a ton.

Water and gear oil don't mix, check out the cross pin hole notice the space, o and that whit was a flash light

Yes, the white part is where a flashlight was being pointed. Not much fluid came out when the cover was popped. Tons of metal particles in the sludge at the bottom, along with some larger metal chunks from bearings and shims. It was obviously run a long time like that, have never seen a carrier with a gear pattern worn into it.

Yea I was wondering because to me it looked like it was definitely leaking because there is a good mixture of mud in there and not much fluid
