Yea I was happy to pay what I gave for it in consideration of what IRO wants for just there 8.8 bracket kit minus the truss. But not knocking IRO, I love there products as well and they've been very helpful anytime I've had questions about their products or my order. Both great companies, but it just made more sense to pay about $75 more and get the truss plus have less measuring when it comes time to weld it on.

well, alot has happened since my last update. i got my bracket and truss kit from ups.

still waiting on time and money before i can start putting it all together.

in the mean time, i grabbed another set of spider gears from good ol pull a part and had a friend weld them up this time. and well needless to say from the pic, he did a good job welding them up lol

broke the axle on a new hill

and we used a little redneck innovation to get it home

PostSubject: Re: Grand-er Cherokee   1st July 2012, 6:38 pm

so last week, i decided it was time to go back to work on my tube doors. and it was just in time for the insane heat wave that's hitting us here in Louisville.

so i wound up junking the front doors and building new ones to match the rears. i also changed the latch design to my original plans but just ran out of money and time last summer. i also ordered some gussets from artec industries with my 8.8 bracket and truss kit for about $1.49 a piece and welded those on. then i sprayed them with a coat of truck bed liner and a few coats of white. i really dig the way these things look now. i love driving it around with these on, i've received all kinds of compliments from ppl at gas stations and parking lots who don't even own a jeep.

as you can tell in this last pic, i also finished breaking yet another header panel and marker light on some tree limbs my last time out wheeling. so i've decided i'm done with the stock zj headlight/marker light/header panel situation. I'm going to add my own custom lights for head lights similar to what i've seen a few ppl do on JF and mallcrawlin

i don't even have a bender. i made those doors from 2 old cart things like you would see behind a grocery store or something. i cut them up and used the metal, they already had some sections with 90 degree bends in them and i just kinda tweaked the bends that were already in them to make what i wanted. i'm really happy with the way they came out though. they get alot of compliments and some stares lol

PostSubject: Re: Grand-er Cherokee   10th July 2012, 11:54 pm

today i added a mod that i've been wanting to do for a loooonnnggg time now. god knows i've probably bought more than 10 replacement headlights in this thing. one or two of those were my fault by snagging them on tree branches in the woods but most of them due to the crappy header panels on the zj that just seem to let the headlights fall out and then i run them over with the front wheel. so after having both of them fall out within the last two wheelin trips i've been on, i've finally had enough.

i decided to say screw it and ditch the factory headlights. went to harbor freight and with a coupon picked up a set of their 100 watt offroad lights for $17.99. brought them home and first thing i did was take what was left of my header panel off.

then cut the factory headlight plug off and spliced the wires. one disadvantage is you only have single beams after this.

pretty simple mounting and adjustment on these, simple yet effective. nice and easy thumbs up

drilled one quick hole and mounted. easy as pie! and no more headlights falling out or foggy lenses

mounted and wired up...

put what was left of my header panel back on and mounted the grill, and this was the end result. i think it makers her pretty mean looking in my personal opinion.

at dusk

and in the dark

and this one was just for fun

Put a flat piece of plate steel across there, but use a plasma torch and cut sharp teeth in the plate. Paint the tips of the teeth red. Hang some kind of stuffed animal in the teeth like its eating it.

Could be fun.

well what can i say, i just can't help myself. dirty turtle is having their jeep vs toyota competition this saturday and i couldn't miss out so i fixed the 35 yet again. tore the cover off and put another axle in tonight. putting gear oil back in it tomorrow and take it off the jack stands and she'll be ready to go. i guess i'll try to take it easy this weekend because although i am getting to know my rearend like the back of my hand, i'm getting a bit tired of laying on the creeper underneath it. not to mention i'm even sicker of the smell of rearend grease lol.

one note on the gear oil i will agree with you on that did a friends trans on his mustang and that stuff made me sick just at the thought of pulling another trans

It's locked in the rear but not with a locker lol. I'm too cheap to buy a locker when it's so easy to just weld one up

You might as well man. It's the same thing as far as how it drives unless you have an air locker of course lol. I've even broke the welds on spider gears before but it still didn't hurt anything. They were still locked but just had a bit of play in them.

well no legit shop will do it for liability reasons, but anybody who builds drag cars or rock crawlers etc will know how to do it. i got a buddy who did mine, he probably wouldn't charge you much to do it, but you'd have to bring your jeep to him.
