| First topic message reminder :Ya, I'm gonna build it. (Updated 2/18/13) For those who don't know, the 5.9 Limited was a 1 year only deal. Only 15,000 were made. It included the high output 5.9l v8 (premium gas only), 46RE (i think) trans, D30 Front and D44a Rear with LSD, NP249 Tcase, Full set of skid plates underneath, recovery hooks, functional louvers on the hood to vent heat, electric only fan (a first for GC's), a redesigned roof rack, and a super cherry interior including real calf skin leather on the seats, leather trim on door panels, extra wood grain trim around the shifter, and 10 speakers for the tunes (the extra speakers mounted on a soundbar on the roof of the cargo area). Right now its stock with a 2" BB lift. Sitting on 225/70/16 road tires. 225/75/16 Goodyear Wranger MT/R's. This will probably be more of a question and answer thread for a while until I can build up some funds to buy needed parts. My current plans are: 2" Spacer lift DONE 2/18/13, larger tires, hopefully 265/75/16 will fit with that lift NP242 swap. The 249 VC is shot and has to go! (Or maybe, fix the 249, its really not a bad tcase)Keeping the 249, has proved itself offroad. Will have to put a new VC in it soon though. Replace the speakers (most are blown) Need my tunes. Far far future plans may include a larger lift, custom roof carrier w/ light bar, steel bumpers w/ winch (more lights), steel rocker rails, and who knows... Day 1 (sitting next to my old ZJ - 98 4.0 Limited) 2/18/13

| Wow! What a weekend. Started pulling the axle on Sunday. Was expecting some help at some point during the day, but alas, none showed. Had to take Monday off from work to finish it, fortunately some helped showed, thanks guys! Pulled the front axle completely on Sunday. By myself, with hand tools. I removed the bump stop retainers after that and called it a night... On Monday, I had some help. We got the control arms off the new axle, had to use a sawzall on one side. We then put the axle under the car and bolted everything up. It went fairly smooth, except the trackbar. We ended up putting the tires on it and dropping the axle to the ground, then when I lifted the axle with the jack, the hole started lining up and we got it. An hour or so of putting stuff in place and tightening bolts, we had the front ready to go. The rear was so easy, must have taken us 15 minutes to put the lift on. We took one shock bolt off from each side, and removed one sway bar end link. Stood on the axle and popped the spacers in. Bolt it back up and done. I stayed with the shock stocks for now, the rancho's i had used a bar pin in the top and would've destroyed the bushing, plus they were about the same length as the old shocks. A project for another day. (the front Rancho's were 1.25-1.5" longer than the oem's) I still need to put in new axleshafts and will probably put new ball joints and change out the knuckle on the driver's side as one of the caliper bolt holes was very suspect. So far can't tell from test drving. I couldn't get the front driveshaft back in. Missing 2 bolts, and it seemed too long to go back in, maybe i was doing it wrong... Oh well, will get it in soon enough. | |

| Found my bolts and got the driveshaft in. Welcome back VC "hopscotch"... Didn't miss that part. No tire spin when launching now, will just shove you into the seat.
Went with a group to highwater today, I wasn't feeling it and turned around after 1/4 mile. A bit to slick and I got a thing with heights, and it is high up. 4wd definitely works well, had to climb up a small hill and did it with no issues crawling in 4lo.

| Trackbar bolt worked itself loose. Thought a LCA bushing went out. Re-tightened all the LCA bolts and really wrenched down the trackbar bolt. Runs nice and tight now. Still need an alignment.

Really watch that trackbar bolt hole on the axle side. Mine wallowed out after I put the BB on initially, and it took me forever to track down the cause of death wobble then.

| I think mined let fully loose this morning on the way to work. Got pretty bad. Tightened it back up, hopefully the hole is still good. May look into tack welding the nut if it loosens again..

If the hole gets wallowed out, then you weld a grade 8 washer at the right size over the wallowed out hole. That's what I had been told to do, other than completely replace the bracket. Mine's held up for almost 2 years (driving, 3 years total) like that.

| Will go with oversize bolt if it wallows out, and weld the washer too | |

| Well, trackbar has held since I tightened it. Went back to Interlake with LJOC and was able to drive my Jeep home this time Had a blast. Got to lead a group around the place. The 2" lift and tires made a HUGE difference and the 249 tcase proved itself beast once again for offroad. I got stuck twice (in 5 minutes) but that was me diving the front diff into the mud when I knew i should have gone around... Didn't get as many pics this time, and no video | |
